— Book 2 in the Stitch Trilogy —
It’s only been three days, and already everything is different.
Paragon is behind her, but somehow Alessa’s life may actually have gotten worse. In a wrenching twist of fate, she traded the safety and companionship of her sister for that of her true love, losing a vital partner she’d counted on for the ordeal ahead. Her comfortable university life is but a distant memory, as she faces the prospect of surviving a bleak winter on the meager remains of a ravaged world. And if she’d thought she’d tasted fear upon seeing a ghost, she was wrong; now she’s discovering new depths of terror while being hunted by a deadly virus and a terrifying pack of superhuman creatures thirsting for blood.
And then there are the visions.
The memory-altering “stitch” unlocked something in Alessa’s mind, and now she can’t shake the constant flood of alien feelings ransacking her emotions. Haunting memories of an old flame are driving a deep and painful rift into her once-secure relationship. And a series of staggering revelations about the treacherous Engineers – and the bone-chilling deceit shrouding her world’s sorry history – will soon leave Alessa reeling…
Cliffhanger Ending Highlight:
Review at Babbling of a Bookaholic
The ending to this book just about killed me, I suspected it but I didn’t want it to be true so when my fears were confirmed it broke my heart. I am now dying to know what this means and if they can fix it.
Shudder by Samantha Durante is a deeply touching and sensational story of discovery and freedom laden with heavy doubts and uncomfortable choices. I was swept away into this amazing world. I was taken in by its vivid detail and tangible emotions. My heart was stolen from the start. The tender and enduring love of Issac and Alessa combined with the dark intentions of a post-apocalyptic world propelled the story onto my top books of 2013 list and made me love it!
Choices are a part of life. At times they are not easy or fun especially when they are hard ones, but no matter what circumstances we go through, we must have the courage and the wisdom to make the best decisions that we can. Once those decisions are made, we should walk away with confidence in our choices even if we walk away unsure and unsettled.
Issac and Alessa are wonderful examples of trying to make the best decisions that they can based on the information that they have been given. They take what they know and what they have experienced and use it to make the best decision about which side they should join and where their loyalties should lie. Afterwards, they have to pick up the pieces of their life and do what they can to begin making things better.
The ugly and dark world of Paragon has forever changed them and forced them to find a new normal. They begin to struggle to rebuild their life, but thankfully they have each other to lean on and to love through this time. Hope is born, and they do everything they can do nurture and protect it. Nothing is more important than feeding their new hope, cherishing each other, and planning for a future.
Samantha Durante’s beautiful writing style has made me an enthusiastic fan. I very much enjoyed the heart and soul of her world. The pain combined with the passion is the perfect recipe for a compelling and moving story that is sure to touch hearts. I look forward to reading more of her stories!
